Understanding Nationwide Long Distance Moving Quotes

Licensed vs. Not Licensed Not all moving companies are created equal. Many will say they are fully licensed but until you check, you really don't know. Being licensed for cross country moves requires additional regulations and insurance. Always check your mover's MC number. Even if it is posted on their website, you won't know it is valid until you search at www.fmcsa.com. Moving trucks are required to pass through weigh stations.  Hiring a company that is not licensed for out of state moves puts your valued possessions at risk. If a company is caught transporting without a license, they are "put out of service" and your household belongings are stuck in limbo.

Brokers vs. Actual Carriers A broker is a company that partners with individual movers to provide moving services. There is little accountability involved and you do not know what moving company is coming until they get there. A broker does not have their own trucks and licensing.
A Carrier is an independent moving company that takes care of your move from start to finish. The carrier has it's own trucks, licenses, insurance, office manager and moving crews. They do not pass your move to other companies and are first hand accountable. They many have one location or have many nationwide.

Your Long Distance Move Price Moving Long Distance can be expensive. Of course you would like to get the lowest price, but you don't want to get scammed. Long Distance Moving Quotes can be confusing, especially if you do not know what to look for. Most long distance companies will give you a price based on an estimated volume (weight & cubes). Some companies will severely underestimate this volume to make it seem like you are getting a great price. When the movers arrive, you get stuck paying a much higher price as the actual weight & cubes could be triple.

The estimate below was brought to us by one of our clients because we price match for comparable companies.

scam moving quote example

This quote shows 776 cubes as an estimated volume. That would only fill half of a 26ft box truck. We estimated the same move at 2400 cubes. Their total price is based on the amount of cubes. At those numbers, 2400 cubes at $4.50 per cuft would be $10,800. The Fuel Surcharge would raise to $1404. Add the $3000 Estimate Fee listed and the original $6945 turns into $15,204. This is what to watch for when getting long distance moving quotes.

ABOUT CUBES AND TRUCK SIZES A traditional 26ft box truck holds approximately 1650 cubes. This is the standard in the moving industry. Another option is a 53ft tractor trailer. That unit holds 4300 cubes. Cubes are about space. Apollo Strong Moving is proud to offer larger trucks for your long distance move. Our 40ft Box truck holds 2600 cubes. Our 48ft truck hold 3000 cubes. Our 40ft w/ attached 24ft truck holds 3800 cubes. Our 53ft Moving Van holds 4300 cubes. Always make sure you are getting the amount of space you need in a truck when booking your long distance move.

What to know when moving long distance to and from the Arlington, Dallas, Fort Worth Texas area.

When moving long distance to and from the Arlington, Dallas, Fort Worth Texas area, it is important to find an honest, reliable and reasonable moving company. There are many to choose from and doing your research is a must. Check multiple companies before making your decision.

1. Always look for and check a mover's MC number which assures you that they are fully licensed to move out of state. Long distance out the state of Texas movers have additional licensing and insurance requirements. There are movers who will say they are licensed when in fact, they are not. This puts your household goods at risk and opens you up to additional unlawful interstate commerce practices.

2. Know when your moving shipment will arrive. Make sure you know if you are working with an individual moving company or a broker company. This will make a difference as to whether your belongings are driven straight to your new location or take a lay over in a warehouse to be unloaded and reloaded with a variable delivery date.

3. Ask clarifying questions. When you get an estimate for a long distance move, it can be done in a few different ways. Some companies will charge by the estimated weight of your shipment combined with distance. If they estimate less than the actual weight, you may be charged more according to the actual weight. Some companies will charge based on the total scope of the move including actual items presented during the in home estimate, total time and drive distance. If the company underestimated and all of your items do not fit on one truck load, you may be charged extra for another truck or need to leave some of your items behind.

4. Confirm what type of truck you will be getting for your move. A standard moving truck is 26ft. Some can be smaller. The largest moving box truck is a 40ft straight truck and there are also up to 53ft moving vans.

5. Do not make full payment up front. Movers should require a nominal down payment only and with remainder due upon the unload. Confirm that your deposit is refundable.

6. Find out if your movers will be the same on the load as they will be on the unload. It is important to hire a company that has movers that will take care of your belongings from start to finish. This also keeps the chain of responsibility intact.

7. A mover's insurance liability is minimal unless additional insurance is purchased. Damage claims would be subject to review and a deductible. If a moving company says they are bonded, note that this is not additional protection for you unless you purchase a bond policy.

8. Go with your good sense. If a price is too low, there may be a reason. If a price is too high, it could be over inflated. Choose a company that matches your moving needs and has a proven community track record. Choose a moving company that you feel comfortable knowing your lifetime of possessions will be delivered safe, sound and on schedule.
